  • Care, inclusivity, and accessibility in Glass Art Education by Bridget Provan

Care, inclusivity, and accessibility in Glass Art Education

    Bridget Provan

In glass art education care, inclusivity, and accessibility have been recurring themes that have kept arising in my journey. Specifically, why are they absent? As an art educator, I feel it is important to support and educate all students and their entire being. As an art student when I received any care I felt it was extraordinary but, in reflection, I feel it should be the minimum an educator provides. In my thesis I explore the importance of care, inclusivity, and accessibility in glass education and how to incorporate all three into multiple educational settings. This thesis is a culmination of my multiple research methods, literature review, experiences, and my passion for glass art education.

  • Emotional experience: An exploration of reestablishing the connection with nature through novel street tree planning in Providence, RI by Xiuyan Qin

Emotional experience: An exploration of reestablishing the connection with nature through novel street tree planning in Providence, RI

    Xiuyan Qin

This thesis explores the causes of the unprecedented disconnection of humans from nature experienced in modern society. To improve this disconnect, this proposal seeks to place the street tree at the intersection of nature and culture through urban installations that intensify urban sensory experiences. By strengthening human sensory perception, promoting stewardship through diverse participatory planting plans, enabling urban ‘foraging,’ creating community-led and household maintenance regimes, the street tree installations will increase public health outcomes and create environmental agency within the public realm. I sincerely believe that the ultimate mission of landscape architecture lies in encouraging a healthy, poetic, and joyful life that we deserve to live in, and I think that creative street tree design can accomplish this!

  • Cycle of care: a study based on home-care elderly living in Beijing, China by Wenyue Remi Qiu

Cycle of care: a study based on home-care elderly living in Beijing, China

    Wenyue Remi Qiu

In China, the aging society has accelerated the elderly care industry to grow into three major systems: home-based care, community-based care, and institutional care facility. All these systems receive financial and political government support, yet the later two draw more social awareness. My thesis project investigates the structures of these current systems by focusing on the demographics in Beijing.

Although in recent years the research shows an upward trend in seniors’ acceptance of living in institutional care facilities, the elderly are still more willing to be surrounded by activities and people that whom they are familiar. In order to guarantee and provide healthy living conditions both physically and mentally for them, my thesis hopes to answer the question of what is the enhanced method for home-care senior living and how to generate social benefits for residential communities through cross generational interaction.

    Olufisayo Quadri

Celebration is an important part of living a fulfilled life. From significant milestone events like weddings and birthdays to smaller moments of serendipity, the act of celebration is an affirmation of one’s place in the world. Across cultures, communities have used festive textiles to show an appreciation for their values and histories.
