The collection contains the digitized publications put out by RISD students beginning in the early twentieth century. Many different publications have been released by the student body over the years, varying widely in both content and format. Yearbooks, newspapers, broadsheets, zines, and comic books are all represented within the collection. Contents include student artwork and photography, local and institutional news, editorials, comics, advertisements, and more. Offset Magazine (1997)

Mixed Media (1996-2003)

Mixed Media began as the student publication Your Name Here. After publishing two issues under that name, the students running the publication decided on Mixed Media. Your Name Here was a student publication begun in the spring of 1996. It was published on a bi-weekly basis, and quickly was renamed Mixed Media. Juice (1993-1996)

Juice was a short-form student publication primarily intended to publicize upcoming events occurring on or around campus. Most issues took up a single side of a single page, with some issues including a back page with articles. Juice was published concurrently alongside several other publications, including Your Name Here and Mixed Media. Penny Dreadful Commission (1989-1990)

Penny Dreadful Commission was a student organization that wanted to "demonstrate the range and expressive power of comic art by presenting a varied collection of work." All comics were student-submitted, and the publication was entirely student-run. Topics vary according to issue.

RISD Voice (1981-1990)

RISD Voice was a long-running student newspaper that ran through the 1980s. Issues included local and institutional news, a sports column, editorials, comics, and advertisements.

Express-O (1975)

Express-O was a short-lived student newspaper published in early 1975. It was an experimental redesign of the RISD press. RISD Press (1973-1978)

RISD press was a student newspaper published weekly in the early 1970s, a self-described attempt at consolidating into one digestible pile all the information outlets of the school, including the previous student newspaper, Montage. Contents include student artwork and photography, local and institutional news, editorials, comics, advertisements, and more. Beginning in September 1973, RISD press included the Brown Daily Herald’s weekly issue of Fresh Fruit as an insert. Free RISD! Newspaper (1970)

The Free RISD! Newspaper was a community-created newspaper meant to take the place of the RISD Extra, a newspaper that itself was published sometime in the late '60s or early '70s, no issues of which exist today. A single issue of the Free RISD! Newspaper is held by the archives; it covers the end of Extra, issues of separation between the RISD museum and its student body, issues of feminism, letters to the editor, a calendar of events, and some advertisements. RISD Paper (1969-1971)

This student-run weekly newspaper was known simply as R.I.S.D., or RISD Paper. The RISD Paper ran through the late 1960s and into the 1970s. Contents included local and institutional news, politics, other topics concerning the students of RISD, and a calendar of events. Because publication dates were not regularly printed on each issue of the paper, some of the dates are best estimates made by archives staff. Some issue numbering also appears out of order; whether this was done purposefully by the students managing the paper is unknown. The Designer's News was a student-run weekly newspaper published in the late 1960s. The Designer (1942)

The Designer was a student newspaper published in 1942. Three issues remain today. The first two issues are written by typewriter on loose sheaves of paper. Scope (1941)

Scope was a student publication that discussed in its single issue the formation and plans of a new student organization. While the publication includes indications that it was intended to be published regularly, no other issues exist. The Broadsheet (1935-1940)

Dust (1934)

Dust was an experimental student publication printed in January 1934 by two students under the direction of a local printing company. It includes several short stories written by students and illustrated with wood and linoleum cuts created by other students. The Student Designer (1929-1932)

The Student Designer was a student-run monthly newspaper published between 1929 and 1932. The paper covered topics including: current events happening on campus, editorials, news from the wider art world, RISD sports, school clubs, recent news from each school department, and advertisements. The Salamander (1925-1926)

The Salamander was a short-lived student publication released monthly during the 1925-1926 academic year at the Rhode Island School of Design. Originally printed one-sided, in January 1926 the paper began to be printed on both sides of the page. Its contents were mostly comprised of fictional gossip and humor. The RISOD (1914)

The 1914 yearbook for Rhode Island School of Design, this includes hand drawn illustrations, descriptions of each department within the school, lists of faculty and graduating students, descriptions of popular social events, photographs of some of the senior class, and advertisements. The Lotus (1910)

An early design for the Rhode Island School of Design yearbook, the 1910 issue is the only remaining. This edition includes hand drawn illustrations, student-submitted entries, descriptions of each department in the school, lists of students and faculty, descriptions of popular social events, and advertisements.
