Blockprint (1955-1968)

Blockprint was the longest-running student newspaper at RISD, with publication dates from 1955 until 1968. It began as a mimeographed news sheet in 1952 and eventually was published as a newspaper in April 1955, before transforming into a compact news magazine in December 1965.

Throughout Blockprint’s run, the publication offered robust coverage of on- and off-campus news, including major events in RISD’s history such as the construction of the Quad and general campus expansion; the transformation of RISD from a technical school to an accredited, residential college; annual Take-A-Break Weekend celebrations; Civil Rights and anti-Vietnam War activism; and visits to RISD by famous artists and designers such as Marcel Breuer, Charles Eames, and Richard Neutra. Blockprint also often featured regular columnists, letters to the editor, student creative work, an events calendar, advertisements, and more.
