Mixed Media began as the student publication Your Name Here. The April 30, 1998 issue includes articles on Student Alliance Forum on Technology, RISD Cabaret, Coen Brothers' movies reviews, along with the comic "Further Confessions of a RISD Nude Model-The Ultimate Comic Strip" by Noa, "Post Mortem" by Adam Swaab, "Special Baseball Presentation Story" by Jeremy, "Detective Vance Marble" by Hector Delgado and Dashiell Faireborn, "Softcore" by Jesse Wiens, event notices, and other announcements.
