The Gorham Manufacturing Company is an American manufacturer of sterling and silverplate. Jabez Gorham and Henry Webster founded Gorham and Webster in 1831 at the bottom of Steeple Street, Providence, RI to manufacture jewelry and coin spoons. Gorham pioneered manufacturing and sales techniques during the 1800s and early 1900s. Subsequent mergers and acquisitions of the company led to the RISD Museum of Art’s acquisition of the company's silver collection and the Fleet Library at RISD received the Gorham Design Library.
This collection contains promotional catalogs that list flatware, silverware, bronze memorial plates, and other silver work done by Gorham Manufacturing. Also in the collection are 19th-century original woodblock printed Katsushika Hokusai manga books and a scrapbook of inspirational imagery from the Gorham Design Library.
