Description

This is a collection of 22 stories about abortion and menstrual extraction. There are stories from a woman having an abortion pre-Roe v Wade, and stories of people having multiple abortions in safe and legal methods. This zine was published in 2002 and was distributed across North America, mostly in zine and book stores, and in online zine catalogs. At the time, abortion was stigmatized- many people did not talk openly about their experiences for fear of being judged. At the time, although 1 in 3 women had an abortion in their lifetime, it was considered shameful by a majority of Americans. Over the past two decades, public opinion has shifted- now a majority of people believe that abortion should be safe and legal (even though the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade). These stories provided a supportive space for people to share their stories without fear of judgement.
