"Eighth printing, August 1926" Armstrong was one of the first women to descend to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. She is credited with discovering new flower species there.

Cover board, bound in dark green cloth, has an elaborate image of lions on a pediment stamped in gold. Below the lions is a multi-colored image of a garden and fountain scene. Below this image is a wide gold ornamental base in which the dark green cloth contrasts with the title, author, illustrator information. Cover design by cover design by Decorative Designers. This firm was unique in that it employed a number of designers, and each was responsible for certain aspects of a design—an early example of division of labor in creative work. The founder of the firm was Henry Thayer (1867–1940) who was trained as an architect (following the example of Stanford White, architect-book cover designer). Thayer was responsible for much of the lettering produced by the firm, and Emma Redington Lee Thayer (1874–1973), another important woman designer, executed the beautiful decorative borders and designs. copy 1 Lowthorpe Collection (cover repaired). copy 2 cover in good condition. Floral motifs are stamped in gold on the spine, and a vertical floral border is stamped in gold (a few inches in from the spine) on the front and back cover boards. Binding design by Alice C. Morse. Copy 2 is a 1904 reprint of the 1891 edition and identical except that it measures 24 cm.
