Curatorial Statement: The past year has been a deeply unnerving time to be in graduate school. As hateful politics entered the White House, we witnessed stability collapse and uncertainty rise. Created during this turbulent period, the work in Dismantled reveals the impact that the state of this nation has had on our community.
We have been forced to reconcile our roles as artists and designers
with the current political climate. For some, this means directly addressing looming headlines, while others offer personal and poetic reflections that resonate with the immediate reality. A desire for exposition, a fear of concealment, and a search for both comfort and connection pervades the work. With urgency we move forward, looking for opportunities to react to decisions that are outside of our control, questioning if all that has been dismantled can be rebuilt.
