Description

Used with “Geo-Proof Set (Tetrahedra and Octahedra)” (LM.0215) to illustrate the volume ratio of octahedral and tetrahedra with the same edge lengths. Therodyne Corporation marketing material states: “Assemble a large tetrahedron by surrounding the octahedron with four tetrahedra. Let the volume of one of the tetrahedra be represented by VT and that of the octahedron by VO. Since the volume of the tetrahedron is proportional to the cube of its edge length, the volume of the large tetrahedron is eight times that of the small tetrahedron, or 8 VT = 4 VT + VO And, therefor, VO = 4 VT"
