Description
An ellipsoidal ceramic shell with a porous brick mantle that Arthur Loeb produced as part of an experiment for the Atomic Energy Commission at M.I.T. to measure the thermal conductivity of ceramics at very high temperatures. The experiment proved that simple solutions to complex problem can be found in natural systems and is described in Georgy Kepes’ book, “Module, Proportion, Symmetry, Rhythm.”
