I've always loved 'mermaid's purses' (or, 'devil's pocketbooks'), the dried egg casings of skates or sharks that wash up on the shore. Thinking about the beauty of nature's trash in contrast to the visual blight of man-made trash, I painted this pair on recycled wood from RISD Second Life.
