Abstract
Mairéad Byrne, Professor, Literary Arts and Studies, received an ACP fellowship to study the unique heritage and potential of RISD-specific writing pedagogies and practices. Her project took form as a two-tiered, ongoing, online project: RISDWrites (http://risdwrites.wordpress.com) and A RISD ABC (http://risdabc.wordpress.com). RISDWrites is a collection of interviews and writings profiling the writing histories of individual RISD students, faculty, and alumni. A RISD ABC is an alphabetically arranged series of texts and links on topics that emerged in those profiles. Sound and images are incorporated into the interwoven sites, so that the overall project mirrors “the present moment of massive flux in page/screen, print/web, image/text relationships” that Mairéad set out to investigate. Her report, below, provides context, analysis, and recommendations emerging from her project. Mairéad is currently serving as senior critic in for the European Honors Program in Rome. She looks forward to continuing to build RISDWrites and A RISD ABC, and invites submissions to this “living archive” on RISD writing.
