2025-26 Patrick Buhr

Patrick Buhr is a filmmaker and experimental animation artist whose work blends comedic autofiction with absurdist surrealism, often through playful, multilayered storytelling. In addition to his film practice, he creates interactive media art that extends his exploration of narrative and form into digital environments.

Buhr studied philosophy at Humboldt University in Berlin and media art at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. His short films have been presented at numerous international festivals, including Tampere Film Festival, Pictoplasma Berlin, Oberhausen, DOK Leipzig, Encounters Bristol, and Slamdance.

As a 2025–26 Movement Lab Fellow at RISD, Buhr will engage a “transversal movement project” that explores transformations across personal, social, and artistic dimensions, using interactive audiovisual animation as an imaginative trigger for shifts in thought and perspective.

Inspired by Gilles Deleuze’s concepts of rhythm and transversality, the project encourages fluid navigation through diverse spaces—honoring the local context while opening possibilities for new modes of perception, connection, and form.
