Mettle presents works that challenge the functional, formal and conceptual understanding of jewelry. This exhibition contextualizes the art object through investigations in different materials and approaches of making. The selected works reveal the extent to which artists innovate solutions to communicating through objects. The thread joining all of the exhibited work is the critical engagement the artists have with the body, a site that is intimate, gendered and a condition of the work. Mettle-ing with jewelry reconsiders the art experience as shared activity between artist and audience.
